I had the title for my novel, before the writing even started. I woke up one morning and wham! A title came to me. I am not going to tell you what it is, until it is completed.
I asked author Louie Jerome what she would call it, she kindly sent me many titles, I chose one from her list but my origional still keeps popping up, I try and change it but it doesn't appear to want to be changed.
The title for the first of my poetry books took a little longer to form.
How did I reach the final title for my first poetry book, From My Heart Inside My Head?
I wrote down 20 different titles, I used highlighter pens in various colours and graded them. For example:
Red = A favourite
Green = A maybe
Pink = No
I then printed out the list and asked four friends to use my colour code and choose their
favourites.
Then I went through the lists and reduced it to ten. I asked them again to do the same with the new list.
I then reduced it to five and played around with the title and my name. I chose the one most appropriate to my book.
How did I choose the title for my second poetry book (still under wraps)?
I wrote a poem Sticky Sandwiches, I loved the way the words sounded when I said them...as simple as that, I had my title.
If you do get stuck, ask friends to help, you will be suprised who comes up with the most creative of titles.
