Sometimes sitting in the vineyards lets me down, my mind cannot grasp the concept that I want it to generate words and get them into a formatted paragraph.
In order to shake off this block, I have a method that works 100% for me.
I write a word, for example, as I am sitting in the hills I might write the word:
Tree
I then write anything that I connect with that word:
Bird
I then put the two together with an ajoining word, it never matters that it does not make sense.
Tree and Bird
I continue adding anything that pops into my head:
Tree and Bird, fly up sky, cloud with rain, sun and weather, winter ends summer, seasons come and go.
I will continue this list until a word triggers my writing again or a rythm builds.
Seasons come and go
Winter brings in snow,
birds to tree they fly,
clouds appear in the sky,
sunny weather will disappear,
and reappear again next year.
So there you see, word triggers, all be it simple have helped me keep my brain active and given me hope that not all brain cells have given up.
If you are having problems, try it. If you are in the supermarket, just jot down one word that springs to mind, having your car fixed or hair done, does not mean that you have to sit in the rut of writer's block, hairbrush or grease could lead to a short story, poem or your latest novel. Just one word can open the door.
