It was worth it?
My day at the BBQ was just as I hoped. The company was good, the food excellent and the wine chilled.
Several children chose to jump into the pool and splashed about and I watched their fearless manner.
I then thought back to how I hesitated over whether to write a novel.
If only I had the mind of a child, I would have not hesitated for so long. I would have jumped in and then found out I could or couldn't write a novel.
I sat watching the adults chatting and all of a sudden I visualised Kitty and her friends in my modern world. It was quite amusing for me, a young Victorian woman at a BBQ with me. She is in my mind daily, I cannot remove her, she is not annoying, which is a good thing.
Then joy of joys, my host offered me the loan of a couple of his reference books from the period I am writing about. I am so glad it was the end of the day when the offer came as I would have been a little twitchy, knowing I had them in the car all day.
I was up at the crack of dawn today, I watched the sunrise, grabbed breakfast and settled down to a good read. Horror, one of our four dogs needed a vet, so time out for him. A gardening project needed finishing for a friend, so time out for her, oh lordy when was I going to get to my precious reads?
At last, I found time. With new ink in my pen, I started to take notes. I then did a bit of backup research on the Internet and I am off again. A new chapter is underway. Yes the BBQ was worth it.

Sounds like you had a worthwhile visit.
Sounds like the research is going well. It's a shame that you live so far away..I have lots of books on this period, some printed at the time.I use them for my research regularly.
