Yesterday my computer and my new poetry book learned a few new words. I am now waiting for the proof of Sticky Sandwiches (self-published) and hopefully it will be available mid-summer.
I have been writing several scenes of my novel and noticed that I am using some words over and over. It concerned me that the book would be pages thick but housing 100 words duplicated time and again.
I have my thesaurus which is a loyal friend, but I wondered what was in my cyberworld that would capture my attention. So I googled 'learn new words', low and behold I came across:
A Word A Day This site invites you to sign up and each day there is a new word waiting for you, there is the facility to hear the word too.
The dictionary is for ever changing, new words are added daily but I came across an article written my author friend, Louie and what she has found is a little worrying...
Correct Your Spelling By Adding It To The Dictionary is worth reading, as it shows how the possible greed of some sites might be the downfall of those learning to spell.
Now another site I came across helps in two ways FreeRice has a vocabulary game and if you answer correctly they donate 1o grains of rice to the UN World Food Program. I learned new words and had 150 grains of rice donated, to me that was worth playing for a few minutes.
Well I must get focused on my book again, Buttons and Bows the new shop of Kitty Harper's needs decorating.
