The template for my poems froze on me and I decided against throwing my laptop in the pool and went back to Kitty.
DH asked what I was drawing plans for, when I told him it was for my shop design for the novel, he looked at me in a bemused fashion, muttered something about being crazy and sauntered off.
The reason I was drawing rough plans was to give me some feel of the place, Kitty will work and live in, when she moves home. She will have small changes in her character I am sure, there will be new events in her life, I know. Kitty is a part of me now, she is in my life for a long time, to me she is real. I see what she sees, I smell what she smells, my tears are...because I can't write fast enough!!
I need the plans to be able to see her greet customers, to entertain friends and to cry alone. The atmosphere of her living quarters compared to her working enviroment is important for me to be able to switch from mood to mood.
Well here is Buttons and Bows the shop of Kitty Harper.

I even used coloured pens to indicate bolts of fabric, etc, There are seats under the window near the changing room, a privy in the yard and a kitchenette off of the shop.
Upstairs are three rooms, one for working, the bedroom and the living area. I have to read up a little more on what sort of things would be around at the time, ie washing facilities. I am taking her up a grade in the area of where she will be living, and therefore want to give her a little luxury to what she was used to, not a lot but just a touch.
The name of the shop came to me as I was writing this up. It amazes me where the ideas come from sometimes.
Re: The poetry book, Sticky Sandwiches...it is ok, the template recovered after a little cursing and coaxing. Back on Track for both books.

This one of the things I like best about writing -- you really get a chance to get inside a character -- and they are so inside you, they take over!
I love the shop and living quarters and your detailed drawing. It will help immensely when you're writing scenes in those rooms to know exactly how far it is from one place to the next. Could she hear the tea kettle whistling in the kitchen and be able to graciously see her best customer to the door, say goodbye with heartfelt thanks, and still dash back to the kitchen before it boiled over? Knowing everything about those rooms will allow you to know the answer. Now, I'll be thinking of the little shops I've seen that remind me of Buttons and Bows. :D
Thanks Sunflower and thanks for the inspirational tidbits!! :))
Glynis...I loved the poem and forwarded it to my son. He went straight from high school into the Army and stayed 21 years. He drove a mutiple launch rocket system in Operation Desert Storm's ground battle. He retired last year and I was thankful he did not have to go to Iraq!
Your muse....I know just how they prod until you give in! HA! :)
Thanks Carol! I bet you were grateful about your son.
Thanks for sharing the drawing of your shop. I saw another author do something similar. At first I didn't understand the reasoning for drawing the layout, but now it makes perfect sense, as I am working on my own book.

RAFAEL.
Hi Glynis,
I am trying to keep up with you. You have so many blogs and projects going on. I just don't know how you do it.
It seems like your love is coming along nicely, even with all the stress from the wedding and all.
Seems like your novel, not your love.
Good Lord! lol
