Time Out From Writing ~ Really?

I took some time out from writing the past day or so...or did I?

I wrote a letter to an aunt who is ill, I wrote instructions out for friends and I scribbled down notes and ideas. So what do I class as writing?

I had put the term writing into the catagory,' sit down and concentrate on the book for several hours'. Writing the letter etc, to me was just something that had to be done. Writing notes is scribbling notes, not writing my novel. I had never really thought about it until, DH said have you written today and I replyed "no I took time out from writing today. I must catch the postie to take this letter I have written to aunt P". I contradicted myself in that one sentence!

Great Find!

I found a lovely book on Victoriana items in a carboot sale, ideal for my research. The price was over the top, so I beat the guy down by telling him he can have a signed copy of my book when it is published. He laughed and said for my determination and courage I could have it half price!
Now those of you who have just joined in my journey on writing a novel, are probably thinking, big deal, but I live in Cyprus with no access to English libraries, so this is a little piece of gold dust to me.

Book Endings!

The ending of my book has always been there for me, I had the ending before I started writing the start. Yesterday a few suggestions from my mentor Louie Jerome, gave me a few ideas and now I have the choice of THREE endings, just from a small idea she planted. Two of those endings means that in the middle of the book, something changes. I now have to compare notes and see what comes over as the stronger storyline.

It's good to have choices. You can go whichever way your book takes you! Maybe you should write one of those books that used to be around when my kids were younger. You chose which way you wanted the story to go at different points, then you could read it again and have it go in another direction. Can't remember what they were called.

Having the ending first is a good thing. It means you always know where you're going. My favorite author, Robert Jordan, always said he had his ending first.
