Positive Thinking

"I may be short but I am taller than my dogs"

I have been reading a few books instead of posting to my blog. It is the only way I could de-clutter my brain. It always triggers new chapters for me too, even if I am reading a completely different genre to the one I am writing. One word or sentence will inspire.

As writers we are encouraged to read a variety of books, this helps expand our writing style. I went to a second hand book market last week (a wonderful place to visit in Cyprus LOL), and asked the lady to select 6 random books for me from her bargain bin.

My mission is to read them all, regardless of whether the cover appeals or the print too small. I want to see different styles, and hear different ways author's talk to their readers.

What did I get?

The funny thing is that unconsciously I have listed them by the colour, picture and type that appeals to me the most! I wonder if I will complete my mission or will the first four only get read? Perseverance, now there's a word. Application and commitment are two more but are they in my dictionary? :)

You can't write modern fiction if you don't read it! I think that was the best piece of advice I have ever been given about writing style.

I used to belong to one of those book of the month clubs so my library is extensive. I reread them sometimes when I don't have anything new to read. I've always been an avid reader.

I looked at the western one and cringed, I am not a fan. My challenge must be met, I must read it.

Glynis, I had to laugh when I read your comment about the Zane Grey. :o) It's very old--this coming from someone who's read nearly all his many books--and since you're not a fan of westerns, I wish you much luck getting through it. ;o)

A few months ago our local library had their book sale and I picked up some books. One of the books is called kidnapped. I figured it was the typical story of a child being kidnapped etc etc, but it's about different kidnapping cases. It's totally out of the box for me. Usually, I get into Nora Roberts or Danielle Steel. I've been widening my horizon with the books now.

Glynnis- That is too funny. I would take the last two and leave the others for you! I made myself read Pride and Prejudice last year. Was I good?

Thank you all for dropping by.
Still keep moving the country and western to the bottom. Desiree if a novel idea comes from it, I will let you know! Well a title has come from it already!! Well what do you know, I am writing this and it popped into my head :)
