Writing Exercises For the Brain

I think it has come to the point where I have to decide that I am not posting anymore on my blog until I return from the UK at the end of July.

Waaiiiiit!!! Don't slink off, I have left some work for you to do!

Here is a writer's brain stimulator for you to try. These exercises are good for keeping you writing during dry times. They are ideal for when you cannot think of a blog post to write. If you want to borrow this writer's aid, please do but link back the credit to my blog, thanks.

BRAINWAVE DAILY by GLYNIS SMY

Each exercise is for each day for one week.

  • Write 100 words about your body
  • Write 50 words describing 2 trees
  • Imagine you are in a restaurant and you overhear 2 women talking about you. What would their conversation sound like. Use verbal sentencing; "She is as mad as a hatter, that British writer Glynis Smy", said the woman in the pink T shirt... Aim for a 200 word description of the whole set up. The sounds, smells and colours. (This can also be done for a supermarket, hairdressers, Football game/Soccer match).
  • Find a book that you know well, take a passage and rewrite it:
  1. In your own style
  2. As if you were a child
  3. In the voice of the opposite sex. Is there any difference?.
  • Write a short story (A4 length) for a blind person. You choose the age and sex of the listener.
  • Using these 10 words, write an A4 length query letter to a Romance Publisher, (email me this one, I would love to use as a post on my return).
  1. Hypnotic
  2. Salt
  3. Legs
  4. Dismal
  5. Paraphernalia
  6. Captivate
  7. Emulate
  8. Camouflage
  9. Scent
  10. Zeta
  • Here is a NOVEL to reward you at the end of your busy writing week.
Well they should keep you out of mischief for a while. I hope you have fun, I certainly will with my family and friends.

Have a great time! I would play, but I need to jump into panic mode to be ready to leave for my hike.

Here is what I did instead- inspired by a friend who wanted to read them- I collected all my poems in one place and got them in the computer.
