I wrote the ending to my novel today. I wrote THE END but the confusing thing is, I have not finished the middle!
The end is clear and precise, it is edited and polished. I love it, I love the the way it finalises my novel, you know the one, yes that's it...the one without a completed middle.
I have a few more chapters to write, then the work begins, I must edit, jiggle, add and subtract. Then I must cry, rewrite (probably the ending), before I am satisfied with it.
The one thing I am certain of though, is that when I do have my laptop up and running again, I will be unplugging every now and then and not browsing as often. I notice that a few writer friends are doing the same, they are removing the distractions. My recent disaster with my laptop has pushed me to write more. I know I will have a lot of typing to do later on, but it has been worth the effort. My imagination ran riot and I wrote THE END.
Okay thanks for reminding me...I am off to write the middle now.

I used the word jangled, in a sentence today; his nerves were jangled. Not sure whether I will keep it in the book or not, but I am loving the sound of it at the moment, jangled.

Congratulations! I know you have a lot of work ahead of you, but writing the ending is huge!
Thanks Lazy! :)
Glynis!! You are right on track!! It is satisfying to write THE END. In reality, like you say, it is only the beginning of the re-writing process. Perhaps if you let it set for a very short while, when you go back to it [even 3 or 4 days will help] that middle won't be as difficult a task you envision it to be. I wish you luck! Stop by the Ranch when you're feeling like you need a break. I was off for over a month and I feel energized. I hope it works for you, too! :D
Congratulations! I often say that the first draft's purpose is merely to figure out how it ends. Now you get to go back into it and craft the beginning and middle.
Your post made me smile. The end is a wonderful feeling only fellow writers understand.
Big hugs!
Thanks folks!
I always think that if you know THe END, you know where you are going with your writing.
Oh Glynis! I know the feeling. What a blissful thing, to type THE END, sit back, take a deep breath and, for a moment, realize you have completed a novel!! Then, of course, life rushes back in and you're reminded it's time to edit :) Thanks for the reminder! I have to put my edits into my computer. They're all on paper!
Happy Week!
