Now here comes the lesson. I was distracted by visitors when I was file clearing and deleting. I could not remember the full name of one of the agents, so looked at my sent file for the embedded email.
* Look of horror*
*Sick feeling in gut*
I had copied and pasted from a rough draft, that had old edits retained in wrong places!
*BIG SCREAM*
This is what happened in my house today:
What are you screaming for Glynis?
I am a fool, this whole submitting thing is a nightmare.
Calm down. Cup of tea?
No, will it clear up a major embarrasing faux pas? No I think not. I am not being sarcastic, I am upset.
Yes DH, you go and pull some weeds, good idea.
OK. Breathe Glynis Breathe.
What are you going to do?
Nothing, there is nothing I can do.
At least you have learned a hard lesson.
Oh brain, shut up!
OOH, who's snarky?
Right this is getting me nowhere.
I have lost my chance with that agent. So Breathe Glynis Breathe and deal with it.
Delete the files that are no good to me.
Feels good.
I liked that agent, shame.
Oh to heck with it. Do something in true Glynis style.
Dear Agent
Apologies for ...
Yes I wrote an apology for embedding faulty work from a poorly edited file. I embedded the correct information again. I thought, if nothing else, I feel better for doing it, and the agent can see I proofread. *Smile*
So, clear out any files that have no use to you what so ever. I had given mine very close names, and clicked on the wrong one. So name files completely different if you do have to keep them.
Hi did you get the weeding done?
Me? I am OK, I did some weeding of my own.
Yes, it happened and there is no point in crying over it. Just don't let visitors in the house anymore.
No, I am not saying it was your fault. It was my fault, I failed myself but I learned a lesson the Glynis way.
Yes DH it is the hard way to learn.
It is not the end of the horror story, I looked back and noted I had used the same file for another agent. This one has a different submitting system, so I cannot send a 'Love From Glynis' note. I have to accept that two out of the four agents I have now submitted to will not give me a second look, but life is not all about what you are taught, it is about what you learn.
*Still breathing*

Relax, dear dear Glynis. I have been there too, done that. I suspect all of us blogger writers have. It IS horrifying when you realize you've scrambled something in your files.
Pulling up weeds in a garden really helps!! I've done that too when I've been distressed.
Ann
Relax! Remember, it's not a race, it's a marathon.
Ann, I am relaxed now I have sent my apology. At least I noticed, that is something I am pleased about. Thanks so much for your supportive friendship. Lovely to see you today.
Alex, I am trying. It is a large hill to run up, but I will get there.
Thanks for visiting me today.
Okay, you have just convinced me to sit down and get rid of old, unnecessary computer files! I hope the other two agents pan out for you.
Jane, I could not believe my eyes. Never again. Thanks for your support, good to see you today.
glynis, i agree with ann that we've all been there and with alex as well - love his statement that 'it's not a race, but a marathon' - so true and so wise. i hope you will be able to relax......and remember how much faith you have in your own work ♡
Ah you're so right! And I just love your positive spin on things. (Especially your quote about being taller than the dogs at the top of your blog--it makes me smile every time I pop over here!).
That is so sad.
I did that in January.
Then, I learned how to label accurately.
Good luck with the rest of your submissions.
A valuable lesson for us all. Check the email (at least twice) before pressing send. I know that I regularly forget to attach documents, or attach the wrong document when sending emails for work - haven't yet done this in a submission but it is only a matter of time.
Amanda, I am relaxed and I do not think my work is poor. It ain't great as they say, but it is readable. Thanks for visiting and for your support.
Thanks Jody. I am determined to be positive. I also feel it is important for me to share my mistakes. People need cheering up. ;0 LOL
Great to see you here today, thanks for visiting.
Elaine, it is sad but it is also a valuable lesson to me. Glad I am not the only one! Thanks for dropping by, your support is appreciated.
Cassandra, yes learn from my mistakes they are always BIG ones. LOL. The annoying thing is, I checked the email over and over. I think my nerves of hitting send put a veil of fear across my eyes. :0
Thanks for visiting me today.
Oh Glynis! You gave me a belly laugh with this one! You are one FUNNY gal!XOXO
Oh no... I could almost feel that sinking ocean over here. I've made big mistakes, too -- once, I put two letters in the wrong envelopes. My covering letter got sent back to me with a big red slash across the whole thing, a circle around the incorrect name and a big scrawl that said: I am not him!
Yes.
I understand.
Hi Carol, glad I made you smile. Sorry not been over to your blog for a wee while, but as you can see, I have been busy making mistakes! ;0
Thanks for visiting me today.
Talli, in a previous life I was the captain of the Titanic! ;0
Oh my gosh, your letter must have made you feel yuk.
I am so glad you understand, thanks. Lovely to see you.
I think it's good that you sent the apology as it makes you stand out in a good way.
Ooh, Lisa do you think I stand out in a good way? Thanks! LOL
I just felt it showed I had noticed my mistake, and it made me feel much better.
Thanks for visiting today.
Oh Glynis, big hug. Keep sending queries. You'll find your perfect match. I believe in you and want to buy an autographed copy when it comes out.
I think every writer out there has done something very, very similar to this - I once mixed up envelopes (in the old days of snail only) and sent lovely letters - only it was Sam to Mary and vice versa. I got a terse email back from Mary about her name, so that's how I knew.
It's part of the the process -- just think of how wonderful it is to be done and have your babies out there. And you have to laugh - there's nothing else you can do.
Nadine, thanks for believing in me! There will be one with your name on should it ever happen. You have been a great support from the day I wrote the first word, and I thank you.
Ann, I feel so much better now you are all 'fessing up on my blog. LOL
I must admit I feel good knowing I have achieved what I set out to do, anything else is an added bonus.
It is OK to make mistakes, I am only human. I didn't kill anyone doing it, unless they died laughing. ;0
Thanks for dropping by it is great to see you both.
Oh, I am so sorry, because I can SO relate to that experience. It had to do with cutting and pasting from a text document and losing all my paragraph breaks!
I think you did the right thing, and I think a lot of agents understand the issues with e-mail.
Good luck to you!
LOL! Yeah, we all do blunders and can eventuall look back and laugh. Even blog about the. Me, I like raking leaves and pulling weeds and such.

Hi Glynissmy!! Your house is GORGEOUS!! And, your blog post just made me laugh out loud... I woudl TOTALLY do something like that (send the wrong file to an agent). I probably have! The good news is, if the agent is interested in your work, ane mail snafu isn't going to stop him or her from writing you back!! Keep me posted on how it goes!
Thanks Teresa, I feel better for doing what I consider the right thing.
Stephen, it is a yuk moment in one's life, but you do have to laugh, I agree.
Thanks for visiting me today, great to see you.
Erin, welcome and thanks for joining The Important Ones.
I do like my home, so different from when I lived in the UK. Calmer.
Glad you enjoyed the post, and that I am not alone with doing the crazy things in life.
Do you think an agent will give me a second look? Woo hoo, you made my day thanks!
Have a great week, and thanks again for visiting.
