My break from blogging has been traumtic, yet productive. Last year I learned a great lesson in backing up my work. I have been so good about it since, and keep a tidy system. So you can imagine my horror when my computer, word and another piece of software crashed and died, just as I got going on my heads down and finish week.
In an email that was bouncing back and forth between, Nadine Laman and myself, I mentioned that a couple of chapters had gone missing. I later realised it was 25,000 words. I felt much better when she mentioned it had happened to her in the past. She also wrote these words, and they spurred me on.
Consider it the gods that are nudging you to rewrite those two chapters.
DH, said maybe it was meant to be. I said...well actually you don't want to know what I said. Anyway, I think they were both right. Yet again Ripper, My Love has taken a slightly different direction. I am now 14,000 words short of my 80,000 I had achieved, so you can see, I have not been slacking during my blogging break. I have the words, they are in my head and will be added in the next day or so. My computer is having an overhaul, so am taking it in turns with DH on the main one. I could have thrown in the towel, but instead I grabbed one, jumped in the pool, swam to clear my mind. It worked, I am on a roll as they say.
I will take a browse around your blogs, but will not be back here again for a few days. See you soon.

I so agree with Nadine. Things do happen for a reason and it may take us years to figure out what the reason was, but in the end. Okay, so you know the rest. Good luck with the work.

That's the spirit, Glynis!
Good for you to keep right on going. Best of luck getting those words back down on the page.
You're the second blogger today who said she had a computer crash. Maybe I shouldn't go into anymore blogs today... (just kidding).
But, to look at it as an opportunity to rewrite the pages...No, I think I'd rather not lose them to start with! In my view it's probably a test - patience, patience, don't lose your cool. Or, make sure you always backup your work, which I tell myself to do and then forget.
I'm cheering you on, dear friend.
Been through thos crashes myself. Terrifying incidents they are. But I learned a long time ago to back up. A memory stick costs only a few dolars these days, and emailing yourself with Word attachments works too.

I hate it when that happens. Some things do happen for a reason.
Thanks for the reminder to backup. :)
Eeek! That stinks! Keep rolling girl... :-)
Thanks for your support guys, it really means a lot to me!
Jessica, I think you summed it up very well!
yikes - 25,000 words!! you have an amazing attitude. i appreciate your sharing how you handled this emotionally....
thanks too for the reminder about backing up your work - really good advice -
good luck with finishing up your book!
I was just over at Alex's blog & he mentioned what happened about losing 25,000 words.
I can relate to that & oftentimes these things will occur when you least expect them but the rewrite will be better. Different, maybe, but better!
Wishing you all the best!
Amanda, it was a huge shock. I always backup to disc, but had not done so that week. :(
Thanks for the sypmathy.
Lisa, many thanks. I do agree that things might turn out for the better. The new writes are doing great.
Thanks for your good wishes, and for joining The Important Ones. :)
