Now I am not wanting to share this just because my name is on it. If you watch closely you will see the mention of a new publishing site to visit. I love the music that goes with the video. Another great marketing project.
My week has been a busy one.
The 80,000 words will probably only ever be 75,000 but that is alright for a first novel. As hard as I have tried the 5,000 from the 25,000 I lost have never returned. Unless they arrive during the last edits, they never will.
I am finding the synopsis a challenge, but I am getting there. Help and advice from friends has put me on the right road with the query letter and this final hurdle.
When I read through my work, I noticed not all of my characters had features or movement. I have been glued to coffee shops, supermarkets and the Internet trying to form the correct image for each one. It is frustrating when YOU know what they look like, but your MS has no imagination and refuses to record what you envisage. I am very positive about the weekend. If I continue the hard work, I can move forward from writing, to submission.
In true Glynis style, I have a question. I understand I have to insert a page break to indicate a new chapter. Is this the case?

Can't help you with your question, but I love the video. The music is a major plus. It draws you in.

Thoughts in Progress
I've never manually inserted a page break, I just hard return (push return continually) until I find the next page. (And there's probably a more professional way to do that.)
Your progress sounds great, Glynis! Congrats.
And it's a really cool video.
Mason, glad you enjoyed the music too!
Janna, thanks it was very helpful to know you do the same as me.
Thanks both of you for visiting me today. :)
Wow! If you don't want to read those books after that video something is definitely wrong.
Can't answer your question but can't wait to learn.
Thanks, Glynis.
Giggles and Guns
I don't do a page break either. I start on a whole new page for a new chapter. :)
I have read them and Nadine has a fan here in Cyprus, Mary.
LOL, when I find out the answer, 'cos I am sure there is ONLY ONE, I will let you know. :) It gets so confusing at times.
Jennifer, that is reassuring thanks. I will keep doing the same then.
Mary and Jennifer, thanks for visiting me today.
The way you do the right kind of page break is to hit control/enter. Then text that follows doesn't move out of place. This is the way to begin a new chapter.
Don't have time now but I'll look at the video later. And thanks for commenting on my blog. I love to see your smiling face. And I'm SO happy for the progress on your novel. Yay!
I would recommend using a page break rather than just hitting enter repeatedly until you're on a new page. If you go back during the editing phase and add sentences and you've hit enter to create a new page, the new material will most likely through off the chapter heading. Using the page break, whether you add in or take out, your chapter heading stays the same and the next chapter starts on a new page.
Does that make sense?
Don't feel bad, Glynis. CassaStar is only 75,000 words long. Just glad you were able to finish - again!
I wouldn't know about page breaks. I've been learning about writing from people like you. I've been trying to make sure I flesh out my characters a bit more than I do now.
Ann, thanks for the info and for enjoying my smiling face. LOL
I will say, 99.9% of the time it smiles.
Helen, that does make sense. Your editing skills are gratefully received. I will try it out, thanks.
Ah, Alex you have made my day, thanks!
Ratty, what a compliment. Learning from me? Gracious, you are keeping me on my toes with that statement. Thanks so much for visiting today.
Glynis,
I have tried using hard return but the remainder of the pages seem to go off center with the last page half way down the page. i would suggest a page break too.
Thanks Chris, I am finding the same. So will use the page break, it appears to be what the editors recommend too.
Thanks for visiting today, I will get to you soon!
