Meet The Important Ones!

Meet The Important Ones!

Aright?

Alright. Seven letters that can start a debate around the world within seconds. It is a taboo word in the written world, but not in mine. Although, if I want to be taken seriously by the powers that be, it will no longer appear in my manuscripts.

I use it all the time. Alright? OK? It will be alright. I never write, it will be all right.

All right and Alright are two different words. Disagree?

We are alright =We are OK.
We are all right = We are not wrong/We have all got the same answers.
Alright is not accepted as standard English, it is (I feel anyway), modern English and has its place. Word recognises it, I have never had it spellcheck highlighted.

All Right Now...Alright Now are titles for songs but both mean OK Now. So few letters can cause such a headache for writers. To err on the side of caution, all right is more acceptable.

I still sit on the fence. I will leave you with a Smyle.

She felt alright = She felt well/ OK/good
They were all right = They had got all the answers right

They felt if she is OK and they were all right and right, it was alright.

You are alright and all right. We must have gone to the same schools. :D

I agree with Mary (and you). I use alright all of the time. Maybe it's just a southern thing with me.

It took me a while to train myself not to use it.

I use filler words in speech and writing. I need to be aware of words like alright, just, and unnecessary gerunds.

I'm muddled up now :) But I never use alright - was not sure it's acceptable.

LOL I totally agree. I've always used alright. I don't get the bloody fuss. They're not all right about 'alright' being incorrect, alright? :o)

Don’t forget about my CONTEST!

There are so many confusing words in English! I wonder how a non-speaking English person ever learns the language!!!

Another "word" that really confuses people is the verb lie/lay. I have a funny thing to post about this, which your comment reminds me of!

Thanks for coming over to my blog and congratulating me on finishing my revisions. Just start another project, you say. That's what I'm about to do!!

Hope you're having a great day.

Glynis this had me chuckling all throughout!!!! I've had people talk to me about to & too, and their, there & they're but never all right and alright and I think it's equally as important!!!

BTW - You have an adorable blog! I love it and I think your blog writing style is awesome!!

LOL Mary, I think we did. Mine was alright. ;0

Mason, I am English and from the southern part. I live on the southern side of Cyprus. I do believe you are right. It is a southern thing. LOL

Alex, it is a hard thing to avoid when your mind is whizzing along. Alright seems to appear from nowhere. You must have a lot of discipline, 'cos I slip up so often.

Stephen, just alright is a fatal statement for me. LOL. I agree the filler words can trip us up.

Loree, you are right not to use it. Some grammar bods still frown upon it in manuscripts.

Jessica, I don't understand the fuss made. If the word works and the world uses it, it's alright to be used. ;0

Ann I look forward to your post on lie/lay. I get confused by those words. I must admit, Greek is hard but English is confusing.
Good luck with your new project. You amaze me with your energy.

Jen, I am glad I made you chuckle with my post. Alright is a pain in my writing rear. Thank you so much for the compliment, how lovely of you. It was great to see you here and you are most welcome anytime.

Have a wonderful weekend folks. DH and I are having a meal out with friends. Eating under the stars, a lovely end to the week.

Thanks for taking time out for me.

This is a very common mistake bloggers make, along with using the word "that" too much instead of who. I learn everyday to catch my mistakes before posting. lol
