The First Excellence by Donna Carrick : Book Review

The First Excellence (Fa-ling's Map) by Donna Carrick is a fascinating book. It shares the journey and lives of strong characters. (Donna explains more in her video).

My Review:

I thoroughly enjoyed the journey into China alongside Fa-ling. She is in search of her past, this is the land where she was born, but does she belong? What are the secrets she needs to learn? Always protected by her adoptive parents, she is allowed to travel in the company of adults on their way to adopt young children.
Each character has a strong personality. Even those we only meet briefly come to life. The descriptive passages are well crafted, and the story moves at a steady pace. It draws you in deeper and deeper, through the maze of murder and intrigue. Individual emotions are well written into the storyline. There are poignant moments when babies are adopted, when painful decisions are made and secrets are found out. Donna Carrick has used her own experiences extremely well, and crafted a book I am happy to recommend.

Disclaimer: I won this book as a prize. I have not been asked to write a review, but have done so because the book is to be recommended.

That would be difficult to give up their babies, but in some cases its the best thing to do. Best wishes for Donna's success!

Congratulations on winning a book! :) This sounds to be another interesting book, Glynis. There's too many books to read, too little time. I know we read a lot of the same books so I will write this down to include in my TBR list. :)
