I submitted Ripper, My Love to a publisher who asked to read three chapters. They then asked to read the full. Can you imagine my joy? I have sat patiently waiting for news (believe that if you will), and received some this weekend.
Glynis,
Thank you for submitting the full of Ripper, My Love. I appreciated the opportunity to read it and be transported into the world you have created so well. I think you have the basics of an excellent story here; your characterizations are strong, your dialogue charming. However, for a manuscript of this size, I found the use of multiple points of view distracting. Truthfully, it is Kitty's POV that I enjoyed the most and that I feel is the strongest. She is your main character and who the story is about. If you would be interested in rewriting it using only Kitty's POV throughout, I would very much like to take another look.
Let me know if a rewrite and resubmit is something you would consider, and I will watch for your submission.
Can you imagine my reaction? It was...wow...rewrite? Wow...rewrite...rewrite..what??
However after contacting the fabulous Talli with my news she brought me down from panic cloud nine and said I could do it. The manuscript could take it and the publisher was right. Talli too loved Kitty and found her the strongest character.
So I ate chocolate, then some grapes for healthy eating, then chocolate and got out the manuscript. This was Saturday morning. By mid-morning I was fired up. Ready for the challenge. By Saturday evening I had a first draft of my rewrite.
Sunday morning I had a healthy fruit breakfast and caffeine free coffee. I sat back with a clear head and read the draft. It worked! The story has changed but stayed the same for Kitty. Nothing changed for her at all except she is the completely the central character. Arthur and James still play a major role in her life but their background no longer exists. Kitty has the knowledge in her head and the reader can see it through her eyes. The genre has changed from Historical Romance Suspense to Historical Romance. Far more marketable from my manuscript point of view.
Monday morning (today) I was up at 6am with a new scene for chapter 19. It popped into my head while I was cleaning my teeth.
One suggestion from a publisher fired me up. They gave me a challenge and I was ready for it. Should they not be interested that is fine. I have the choice of self publishing the original or the new. Or I can submit the new around and see if it attracts any attention.
For the first time I feel there is hope for Ripper, My Love. Also the changes now link in with Ripped Genes the sequel I am not 100% sure about and have put on hold. Already little ideas are creeping back inside brainbox. There is a chance this could be a story that no longer sits idle.
The positive Agent rejection and now this positive feedback from a publisher has given me more confidence in my writing.

Elle Buchanan my POV from The Man In Room Eighteen is going to Paris for a short time. The word Paris popped into my brain and I jotted it down for future reference. She is an artist and I felt it might be an idea. The following day, Talli Roland mentioned she was going to Paris for two days.
To me this was a sign. My beloved Beta♥Reader♥Mentor was going to Paris therefore it is meant to be in novel three!
I am now researching Paris 1860-75. Anything you come across that might be useful please send my way.

Oh, and first Grand-baby is due any day! Watch this space. Where have nine months gone? What have you done since I announce I was going to be a Yia-Yia in February?

What an awesome opportunity. Scary and exciting at once. Good luck in your rewrite. I hope the publisher likes it.
A lot of work but exciting results are coming! Congrats!!! :O)
I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy for you Glynis! You so deserve it. All the good stuff is coming at once! Lap it up, Love ;o)
CONGRATS! I happened to see this on FB & trotted over here to read all this good news.
I think this is fine news about rewriting the book from 1 POV as you'll really get into the character's head as will your reader & your future publisher!
BEST OF LUCK! :)
This is crazily exciting!! I can't wait to read your book. Come on publisher, you know you want it.
Bless you all for dropping by with your supportive comments! I ♥ you all. xx
This is a big decision, because totally rewriting from one POV is really writing a whole new book. I went through something similar with a publisher who asked me to make major revisions (without any guarantee of publication). After a lot of soul searching, I finally had to put an end to the endless requests for changes and say "no" to that publisher. As I have read your manuscript, I personally am not bothered by the multiple POVs. In truth, that's what gives the reader insight into the Ripper's mind and without it, I think your book would lose its amazing unique quality. But that's just one person's opinion.
Glynis, that's awesome news! Glad you made it work. Polish that sucker up and resubmit.
Patricia, that is interesting to read. Thank you. The manuscript you read really went through changes for the better. Now it is different again. The extra focus on the Ripper has gone.
I personally do not mind multiple POV reads, however I have the desire for a publisher and this might be the sacrifice I have to make.
I have the option of self-publishing the original but not sure I can cope with that at the moment. Who knows where the road will take me.
Thanks for visiting. x
