Review of Maggie's Child

The reviews for Maggie's Child are coming through. I am overwhelmed by their positive, and high praise. Today, I received one that a UK reader left with Amazon. Today, my dreams were fulfilled. She placed me up there with Josephine Cox, one of my favourite historical authors! Someone I wanted to write like, alongside Catherine Cookson.

I cannot tell you how proud I feel. 'Pride comes before a fall', my Grandmother used to say. I am not one for shouting out pride of my personal success, so I hope the fall is on hold for a while, as I enjoy basking in the review below.

It is one o'clock in the morning and I couldn't go to sleep until I had finished reading this latest book by Glynis Smy. It has really captured my imagination with its intriguing plot and colorful characters. The book is real page turner and one which I would rank up there with Josephine Cox, Marie Joseph and Anna Jacobs, three of my all time favorite authors of historical fiction. It gives us a deep insight into the hardships of life in the nineteenth century. The heroine, Maggie, suffers dreadful cruelty at the hands of her miserly husband and through the love of her child, whom she cannot acknowledge she is determined to rise above it and eventually finds true love. This is a beautifully written book which I can highly recommend and I am really looking forward to the next book by this outstanding author.

Yes,I had a Grandmother like that, Glynis. Life always throws up problems, but it is sad that these women had let life embitter them so much that they were resentful and couldn't let others enjoy their well deserved success. Keep going girl, you have achieved so much!
